Cupcake Birthday Party

Cupcake Parties are perfect for younger children, and can be a great way to celebrate the first birthday of your little “Cupcake”.  Especially if you have restrained from giving your baby any sugar up until this day, the look on their face is priceless when they take that first bite of buttery sugary frosted cupcake!!

Invites

Recipe cards listing your child’s name and age, such as “Sofia’s 1st Birthday” as the recipe title, and ingredients such as “one bunch of balloons, 1 gallon ice cream, 2 dozen frosted cupcakes, ½ cup sprinkles, and YOU!”  Baking Instructions:  List date, time, RSVP info and anything else you want your guest to know about the party.

Decorations and activities

Decorate your cupcake party to resemble a bakery/candy store.  Put out canisters of gourmet jelly beans to match the party colors, punch, cupcake shaped lollipops made from candy molds and white chocolate, plenty of cupcakes, and our easy to make marshmallows with sprinkles (see recipe below).  It’s nice to burn cake-scented candles during your party so that when your guests arrive they experience what appears to be the smell of cupcakes baking in the oven.  Try Yankee Candles Butter Cream scented candles.

Marshmallows with Sprinkles:  This has to be the easiest party treat of all time to prepare, and the kids can’t get enough of them.   Open a bag of marshmallows.  Cut each of the marshmallows in half.  Dip the sticky half in sprinkles.  Your marshmallows with sprinkles are now ready to serve!!  If you want to get fancy, you can serve them on a pretty platter, and in candy wrappers that can be purchased at your local craft store.

Allowing the children to decorate their own cupcakes can be a fun party activity.  Make sure to have plenty of frosting, sprinkles, and candy available.  Another idea is to allow the children to decorate their own apron or chef’s hat.  Aprons, chef’s hats and fabric markers can be purchased relatively inexpensively at our Party Shop retailer.  Miniature rolling pins and play dough are great for the younger children, and can be added to the “goodie bags” so they can continue the fun at home.

Thank you cards that include a picture of each child with their prize cupcake or craft are a nice touch.  You could also include a follow up recipe card that says “Award Winning Recipe”, and lists the party activities as the ingredients, and the baking instructions can include the body of your thank you message to your party guest.
