Mittens with an invitation tucked inside, your favorite chicken soup recipe with the invitation information printed on the back, or simply pretty snowflake stationary are all ideas for the invitation to a snow party. Other creative ideas include printing Ski Lift Tickets or a weather report forecasting SNOW for your invitations.
Warning… this party qualifies as one of our most extreme parties ever, so unless you live in a climate where real snow is in the weather forecast, you should be prepared to keep your checkbook handy. The expensive element to this party theme is obviously bringing in the “snow”. There are companies that will bring ice to your home, and shave into snowflakes on your lawn. They charge by the ton, and usually a minimum of three tons is needed to cover about 25 square feet of your lawn. Another option is to hire a Foam Party company, that can be a money saver and a lot of fun for the kids, but then again it’s not snow.
Some tips to help convince your other half that hiring an ice company to shave a minimum of three tons of ice on your lawn is a GOOD IDEA:
You can get fancy if you want and serve a variety of soups, but if you’re going to stick to one soup, our Tomato Basil Bisque is a real crowd pleaser and goes very well with grilled cheese sandwiches.
Open the cans of soup and spoon into a saucepan. Heat on med-med high until soup begins to bubble. Slowly pour in the half and half, whisking so there are no lumps. Once the soup is smooth and piping hot, stir in the basil, season with salt and pepper to taste and serve. Serves 6-8 people.
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches can be made ahead of time and kept warm in an oven on very low heat. Go ahead and cut them diagonally before serving, you will find that the smaller children will only eat a half, so you will have less food waste. Also cut sandwiches are easier to dunk in your Tomato Basil Bisque!!
Hot Cocoa is a must for a snow party. We recommend setting up an outdoor hot cocoa bar with a large urn full of hot cocoa, Styrofoam hot beverage cups, chocolate chips, marshmallows, candy canes and whipped cream. You could get creative and call it your Snow Man Soup station and label the different ingredients as buttons, coal, etc. Make sure to include candy corn for the carrot noses!!
Snowflake, snowman and mitten shaped decorated sugar cookies will add a nice touch to your snow party menu. They also allow you to order a basic white frosted sheet cake from your local bakery, because you can serve every piece of cake topped with a colorful frosted sugar cookie. Add a touch of clear edible glitter to the white whipped cream style frosting on the cake, so that it resembles snow. If you bake the cake yourself, no need to level it before frosting. The more hills and valleys on your snow cake, the better.
If you can purchase one of those snow projectors that are popular around the holidays, and snowflake holiday lights, that’s a nice way to light up your nighttime snow party. Your guests will be amazed as they drive up to see that it appears to be snowing on your house. Cover the tables with a light blue or white table cloth, mini white string lights, then white tulle on top.
