Puff Pastry

Puff Pastry sheets can be purchased in the frozen food section of most supermarkets.  Once you work with it a couple of times, it will become a staple in your freezer because there are so many ordinary snacks that can be dressed up with puff pastry.

The only trick to using it is to allow the pastry to thaw for about a half hour before using it.  This is a good time to preheat your oven according to package directions.

When you’re ready, unfold your thawed puff pastry and lay onto a flat surface.  Cut each sheet into three sections (follow the fold marks), and cut each section into thirds.  Choose a filling, and spoon a small amount into the middle of the pastry.  Dab your finger into a tiny bit of water and go over the edges of the pastry to help seal, then fold the pastry over corner to corner and crimp or pinch together making sure your turnover is sealed.

Once your turnovers are filled and sealed, brush a small amount of egg wash on top and sprinkle with salt, sugar or icing (depending on your filling).  Now you’re ready to follow the instructions for one of our recipes below, or come up with some tasty creations of your own!
